Privacy policy — DLNA Cast Player
Last updated: 26 October 2026 · Applies to DLNA Cast Player only
What this app stores on your PC
Configuration (device name, port, playback preferences) and an optional run log are stored in %APPDATA%\DlnaCastPlayer.
Nothing about what you watch is stored, and no viewing history is kept.
Local network exposure — what other devices can see
This is a DLNA/UPnP renderer, so it deliberately announces itself on your local network so that phones can find it. On the same network, other devices can see:
- the device name you chose (editable in the app),
- the local IP address and port it listens on,
- that a playback stream is active, and the media URL supplied by the casting app.
This information is exchanged only on the local network and is never sent to the internet or to the developer. On shared or untrusted networks (cafés, hotels, offices with guest Wi-Fi), other devices may see the player and attempt to control it — that is inherent to the protocol.
What is never collected
- No account, no sign-in, no cloud service.
- No telemetry, no usage analytics, no advertising.
- No viewing history and no media content is stored or uploaded.
- No third-party network requests.
Network access
The application listens on the local network only. It does not contact any server on the internet. Streams are played from URLs provided by the casting device on your network.
Your controls
- Rename the device in the app settings to change what others see.
- Turn off the optional Content Archive discovery channel in the settings.
- Delete the configuration and log folder to remove all local data.
Cost and purchases
The application is free and contains no in-app purchases, so no payment data is involved at all.
Children
The application is a general-purpose desktop tool, is not directed at children, and collects no data from anyone.
